CAPTURING ELEGANT AND TIMELESS

these images captured are from a photoshoot for TARA WHITTAKER PHOTOGRAPHY
I was asked if I could style the hair for an inspirational wedding photoshoot in a way that helped her vision of capturing a timeless elegant look for brides on their wedding. she also wanted some new images for the launching of her new website and celebration of her 10years of wedding photography. this was a beautiful artistic and collaborative effort showcasing the talent in the city of Calgary

our model Sarah was glowing and was a perfect fit for classic and elegant
she had more hair on her head than I could ever have imagined. I thought id seen it all(or tackled it all) I stood corrected

the stunning bouquet was as fragrant as it was colorful

to quote Tara Whittaker in her goal for capturing images for her new look and website..in fact if  you head on over to her site you will see Sarah gracing the front.

"I hope that 30 years from now, my couples and their children (or grandchildren for that matter) won’t be flipping through their wedding photographs and grimacing because “yikes, that’s the way they did it in 2016"

much thanks for my involvement as well thank you to everyone who contributed!

LAS VEGAS MEET KEVIN MURPHY.

I had the pleasure of spending two action packed days at the WYNN in Vegas November 6-8th for the north American SUPER.NATURAL  KEVIN MURPHY hair show.

my travelling partner( in crime) was a breath of fresh air ...young and eager and packed with so much talent JULIA LINDAL had me giddy in a way I haven't in years (was like seeing me at 20 again)
for her to be seeing a big show of this calibre for the first time...and to able to take part in her excitement gave me a fresh set of eyes in so many ways.

here's a look at a day in the life of the hairstyling world  at an educational conference.
I know..hard life ..but someone's got t do it
it was long and intense, my brain was fried after 2 days and yet bursting with new inspiration and knowledge to bring back to my clients
just in time for the busy holiday season....
check it out. better yet come see what new tricks ive got up my sleeve

THE BENCH:

 MY INSPIRATION:
walking the dog most days past this bench, it spoke to me somehow(now don't be thinking sixth sense or anything like that) it sits alone unused in a quiet pocket of my neighbourhood. watching the leaves build up this fall got me to thinking......of a hippie wanderlust vibe .....and so I created it.
most of my girlfriends by now know that at some point their number will be up...and they will be solicited for model call...and I couldn't have found a better model for this than Alison who embodies all things hippie and spiritual and wanderlust!

this neighbourhood may never be the same as we did 3 quick change of clothes and hair on that bench, the poor weather conditions were in our favour as it was raining and not many spectators this evening. I had my daughter on the look out for bi-law just in case...I hear public nudity is frowned upon.

this is my favourite way to experiment with hair-in the outdoors- no mirror no electricity no hot tools.
it gets me pushing my creative boundaries but also the hairs'-the added element of rain during this shoot made it all the more challenging yet fun.

let me tell you when that hat went on and the guitar was in her hands we did not need to do anything other than let it be....this was her domain!

although you could not tell it was raining(*threatening on snowing) the entire shoot, it gave for nice sheen on the pathway.
her hair had been nicely saturated and all I had to do was remove the braid and rake it out with my fingers for this dishevelled look. again it made for a challenge and had to work with the elements...and the fact that at this point I could no longer feel my fingers.

all she needs now is an album to produce... as this would be her cover shot

thank you to my co conspirators' this night...my darling daughter Mya, who rocked the make up, My friend  ALISON CHUDLEIGH for modelling, providing her own clothing and letting us strip her down in public, and MICHELLE GIER for capturing images and always up for these little creative sessions. the fact we live a block away makes our wine/idea nights too convenient
cheers

XOXO-CREATIVE SHOOT

 THANKS TO EVERYONE INVOLVED
DETAILS HERE

BEHIND THE SCENES: XOXO PHOTOSHOOT

this creative shoot was sparked by valentines.....a day that embodies and symbolizes all things "LOVE"
when TARA WHITTAKER asked if I was free to work on a shoot showcasing pretty yet subtle ideas for a valentines day inspired wedding, my schedule cleared
here's a peek at the prep work and behind the scenes on location in Tara's home studio
the weather was sunny yet blistery so we started inside where it was much warmer -our model Taylor was such a gem to work with and a good sport about being in the cold elements with a continual smile on.
the images were outstanding and it was such a fun way to spend a cold Monday afternoon
photoshoot showcased shortly...stay tuned
you can also get more details here on Tara's site
the one thing I excel in is improvising - notice the starbucks straw holding rollers in place
Lyana from THE ART OF BEAUTY did the gorgeous make up this day

once the rollers were out and hair brushed out the beautiful headband compliments of Bonnie and Theresa at A VINTAGE AFFAIR needed to be placed
as this was a focal piece I styled her hair around the adornment

how yummy are these props??

Taylor was amazing

darn right I ate both of those!

cant wait to show off the final results of this photoshoot....
this would be Taylor's BEFORE- when shes not posing in font of a camera

                                                                            cheers,

BEACH INSPIRED . FALL WEDDING

with fall kicking into high gear I thought it a great opportunity to post a creative shoot that was done this time of year...just not this year :)

this was a lovely wedding shoot inspired by the beach but in a fall setting:
shot on a reservoir as we are land locked here in the Rockies, makes it all the more interesting and we captured the beach inspired setting nonetheless
the  elements were in our favour to capture the soft lighting, the contrast of water and land, amazing texture from greenery sand and driftwood, and the nontraditional color palette for those wishing to step outside the normal conventional whites and creams of most weddings.so lucky to style a short hair bridal model as its not so common with bridal hair, and the DIY veil and hair accessory was fitting. the setting was in North Glenmore park in Calgary
I loved the opportunity to work with
 who
set the stage and organized, and the link to more details and credits can be seen here
